Important news: Royal Decree 1155/2024, of November 19, 2000, approving the Regulations of Organic Law 4/2000, of January 11, 2000, on the rights and freedoms of foreigners in Spain and their social integration, has been published. It will become effective on May 20, 2025.
What are the main novelties of this new regulation? As main novelties related to roots, we highlight that:
- In the social roots: the new regulations change from requiring three years of residence in Spain to two and maintain the requirement to prove family ties with legal residents in the country or to provide a roots report that proves the applicant’s social integration.
- Socio-training roots:(replaces the training roots): maintains the two years of residence required and the commitment to train in a profession in demand in the labor market. Now you will be able to work from the very beginning, while receiving training.
- A new figure has been created, the second-chance arraigo , which allows the regularization of foreigners who have had a previous authorization and for some reason have not been able to renew it, provided that they meet the requirement of two years of residence in Spain.
- And finally, regarding family roots: it does not require a minimum period of residence in Spain and is limited to third-country national parents of citizens of other EU Member States, because the rest of the cases are regulated in a new statute of family members of Spanish citizens.
